Echinacea (purple coneflower)

Echinacea is one of my favorite preventatives. It aids the immune system in fighting infections like the common cold. Its validity has not been proven, but I take it when there's 'something going around', and it works for me. I highly recommend taking it regularly when you are vulnerable to exposure.

Echinacea should not be taken indiscriminately, however: your system will become immune to its effects, and there is possibility of liver damage from overuse.

Use Only FDA-Approved

How do I know herbs are safe for me to take?

Herbs are natural, so in most cases herbs are safe to take. Herbs rarely cause side effects, but always check the side panel - and ask your doctor, especially if you are taking any prescription drugs.

For the most part if you find the FDA-approved herbs you will probably not experience side effects. (Keep in mind that the FDA, US Government, Pharmaceutics, and so on keep some herbs out of this country, since they have proven to cure certain diseases.)
